About Sandi

Sandi's Mission with Mental Health

I am proud to support beyondblue as a member of the Speaker Bureau, sharing my story to increase awareness and understanding of anxiety and depression in Australia and to reduce the associated stigma.

Our vision is an Australian community that understands anxiety and depression, empowers people to seek help, and supports recovery, management and resilience.

beyondblue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation and works across a range of settings and brings together expertise in order to provide information and programs to support those affected by anxiety and depression, and improve the mental health of every person in Australia.

Learn more about anxiety and depression, or talk it through with our support service.

Who is Sandi?

What is Sandi's Style?

Style

I hold a high value on creating learning events that are effective and efficient.

Countless research has shown that the most effective learning occurs when individuals are relaxed.

Research has also shown that there are specific, concrete ways of accelerating learning and increasing retention.

Because of this, my programs are characterised by appropriate amounts and use of:

  • Lightheartedness
  • Interaction between myself and the participants, and the participants themselves
  • Real-world practical applications and exercises
  • Anecdotes, stories and examples
  • Music
  • Colourful visual aids
  • Summaries
  • Memory hooks enabling better recollection of the material
  • Informality, while remaining professional
  • Opportunities for individuals to complete personal Action Plans for the future

What are Sandi's Qualifications & Experience

With over 25 years of professional experience in training and management, my primary goal is to help people learn, rather than merely tell them what to do. Since 1989, I directed my own company, Shattering Glass Ceilings (a Division of Knowledge-Able Pty Ltd).

I am regarded by both my clients and peers as one of Australia’s most enthusiastic and authentic presenters.

And I am particularly proud to be a widely-acclaimed author, with my book, Women on the Move: How you can create your place in the world, now in its 2nd Edition.

I was awarded the designation of Certified Speaking Professional by the National Speakers Association of Australia (NSAA) – the only internationally recognized designation for professional speakers. As of January 2012, only 91 members of the Australian Association have achieved this honour - of which only 34 are females.

I served as NSAA’s President – Victoria (2005), was awarded their Speaker of the Year (2004) and am a Member of the Global Speakers Federation.

As I relish the opportunity to assist organisations in developing their people in order to achieve higher levels of excellence and satisfaction and am committed to contributing to our community, I am also the Past Patron of the Australian Institute of Office Professionals (Victoria Division), a Member of the Advisory Board of The Global Good Foundation and serve on the organizing committee of our local Cancer Council Relay For Life annual event.

Will Sandi tailor an event to my needs?

Every organisation is different. That’s why we tailor our learning events to fit in with your culture, your priorities, your needs and wants … as well as your budget.

Time of day and day of the week is entirely your choice.

‘Lunch & Munch’ sessions, ½ day, full day, residential programs, or even a series of shorter events scheduled over several months can all be catered for.

In addition to face to face events, we also use on-line programs, teleconference & webinar technologies to transfer knowledge and instill key messages.

Individual and Group Coaching are further options that can be incorporated to create a custom solution to the business problems and challenges you want to address.

  • In my work, I frequently speak with people who are disenchanted with their lives.

“I feel so frustrated … I’ve been doing the same thing at work for years and I just can’t seem to get ahead.”

“I feel lost. I know I am capable of doing more but have no idea how to achieve what I really want to do.”

“Maybe I’m just not meant to do anything else. I mean, who am I to want more?”

    I find this very sad.

  • Work/Life Balance doesn't exist - and while we continue to strive to achieve it, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

    Why?

The phrase itself suggests a couple things that are inherent in the problem:

  • Frankly, no. It's not possible - and we are causing ourselves untold frustration and disappointment while we keep trying to achieve it!

    Why do I say this?

Well, think for a minute about the phrase itself -
  • (WARNING: Your life as you know it is about to change)

“How can I handle difficult people?”

    Answer – you can’t.

“Wait – what? You mean I’m stuck with them in my life?”

Answer – it all depends on how you look at it.

  • I recently attended a three-day women’s festival that I attended for the first time in 2016. It’s never the same the second, third or umpteenth time around is it? First of all, there’s that ‘first time newness’ that we can only get once. “Wow! Look at that!” “Goodness, that’s amazing!” And so on … because we are seeing things through fresh, first-time eyes.

In our subsequent visits, while we look for that same magic, but logically know it will be different than our beloved ‘first-time’.  We then start to notice what’s not there that we liked the previous year(s), and lament “But I really liked that!”

So this year, I decided to focus instead on what was new, different and intriguing. And that’s how I came across The Release Tree.
